What makes Marymount so exceptional? Established by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, a Roman Catholic order, Marymount boasts a proud history, culture and tradition. Welcoming of all backgrounds, beliefs, nationalities and faith traditions, Marymount offers particular strengths and opportunities that you will not find at many other colleges and universities in this country. I would encourage you to browse our Web site to learn more about them for yourself, but I will also share with you, from a President’s perspective, some of my own impressions of the Marymount experience.
Marymount has an optimism that can be felt all over our campus. Our faculty, administrators and staff believe in our students and their potential for success—and we work with our freshmen and sophomores so that they can achieve their goals. In and out of the classroom, our professors and professional staff get to know our students and encourage them to pursue their academic, artistic and intellectual passions, whether their interests lie in film, photography, poetry, medicine, social justice or religion. Our classes, our student and residential life activities, and our cultural programming all address the needs of our students, and there is not a facet of the college experience at Marymount that is not some way, shape or form student-focused.
Our student-focused environment translates into some pretty impressive successes for our graduates, 90 percent of whom opt to continue to their educations at a wide array of selective four-year colleges and universities across the country—from California institutions such as UCLA, Berkeley, USC, the Claremont Colleges, Loyola Marymount and Occidental, to national powerhouses that include Cornell, Penn, Brown, Tulane, NYU, the University of Michigan and Ohio State. We are proud of our students and their successes, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that they and Marymount College will continue to be successful in the future.
Part of our efforts to guarantee future success is our current building improvement program, which will include two on-campus residences, a new library and a recreational facility. During my first year at the College, I will be working very hard to ensure that we break ground on these projects in the not-too-distant future. We firmly believe that having our students live, study and participate in all the programs we have for them on campus will enhance the likelihood of their academic success—and all the research in this area substantiates our belief.
Take some time to browse our site and learn more about Marymount College and our focus on success. And, if in you’re in our neck of the woods—the Palos Verdes Peninsula of Southern California—plan to visit us and take in our breathtaking views. You’ll certainly be glad that you did.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael S. Brophy, President
