Highlights of the curriculum

  • 120 unit Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts
  • Opportunities for reflection and research
  • Students select two Areas of Emphasis (22-24 units each)
  • Senior year interdisciplinary capstone project with faculty guidance (6 units)
  • One upper division Philosophy, one upper division Religious Studies course
  • One college level Math course required.Emphases in American Studies,Global Studies, Psychology and Business have specific Math requirements.
  • Electronic portfolio of work required for graduation

Students combine two Areas of Emphasis out of the following options.  The minimum upper division unit requirements are listed for each emphasis.

American Studies 24 units, at
least 15 upper division
Interdisciplinary focus on United States history and culture. Choice of courses includes US History; Race, Ethnicity and Gender, Religion in America, Music in America, American Novel, Business Government, and society. Food in America; American Philosophy.
Global Studies 24 units, at
least 15 upper division
Interdisciplinary approach to develop awareness and understanding of global issues, with courses ranging across cultural Geography; Perspectives on Global Development, World Religions; Folk Roots and World Music, California in the Global Economy and Energy.
Psychology 24 units, at least 9 units upper division, one unit of internship

Foundation in the study of human behavior, with courses in a variety of areas including General Psychology, Research Methods, Social Psychology, Psychobiology, Child and Adolescent Development, Organizational Behavior, and Intercultural Psychology.

Business 23-24 units, at least 9 units upper division  Strong emphasis on fundamental concepts in Accounting and Economics, followed by a flexible choice of upper division Business courses. Choices include Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Management for Sustainability, Communication and Leadership, The Art of Negotiation, California in the Global Economy; and Corporate Finance. 
Arts & Media 24 units, 9 units of theory, 15 units of studio courses Flexible exposure to the arts, with a mix of lecture and studio classes ranging from Art History, to Drawing, Design, Digital Media, Music, Film, and Web Design.
Biomedical Sciences 62 units, at
least 18 upper division
This pre-professional emphasis provides students with a strong background in the physical and life sciences. Courses include General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, General Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Molecular Biology. This program it is intended to serve as preparation for graduate study in medical programs and related fields.
