The Millennial Generation - Team Residential Life
Students born from 1982-2003 are part of the Millennial Generation. Most current Marymount students are Millennials and they face unique challenges such as joblessness, education inflation and "they are the most ethnically and racially diverse cohort of youth in the nation's history." Additionally, they understand a different society, one in which an attack on American soil (9/11) is a definitive part of their understanding of society and one where you could LOL (laugh out loud) at anyone who does not understand tweeting, texting and updating their Facebook statuses.
How do all of these factors and circumstances help us to help our students? What does the Millennial Generation need from their college staff and faculty to feel successful? The Department of Residential Life and Conduct is looking forward to a rich dialogue and some active multimedia in order for us to explore, "The Millennial Generation: The Profile of Marymount Students"
Who am I when it comes to the God-question? - Ken Zanca
This presentation is in no way an attempt to preach at, proselytize, or impose "religious ideas" on any who attend. Just the opposite-it is offered in the spirit of providing language to help people identify their own ideas on the "God question," and to examine the rationales we give ourselves for whatever position we take. Hopefully, the last 20 minutes will be a lively inter-change of ideas.

The Marymount BA -MA Culture: Research Themes and Approaches - Ariane Schauer
Opportunity for faculty and others to come together and consider the core elements of the emerging Marymount BA-MA Culture. A review of what scholarship initiatives are already in motion, and a closer look at some central questions including:
- In what ways can scholarship support our mission of advancing the development of our students and of the communities we serve?
- What community aspects do we see in scholarship and professional development?
- What can we envision as the role of Action Research in student research, faculty scholarship, community impact, and institutional learning?
- Are we converging towards a certain type of research agenda or scholarship themes?
- Can scholarship invigorate and unify rather than fragment our professional lives?
- What types of graduate programs lie in our future?
The Road to the B.A. - Stephen Bera
What's the connection between Curriculum Mapping, Student Learning Outcomes, and ePortfolio? If your answer is "they're all tools that work together to foster a student-centered approach to learning that promotes the development of the whole person," you'd be right. But what does this really mean? This session will first address how these tools are connected. This session will then address some of the student benefits, specifically the development of students's reading, writing, and research abilities ("academic litteracy"), as they make their way along the BA Roadmap. Finally, this session will highlight some examples of where we are using educational technology to foster both a student-centered approach to learning, as well as professional development learning communities. When we use the tools together, and we use them well, we stay focused on student learning and growth. It also means faculty and staff can explore new ways of working together. Colleagues will share ideas and examples.
