I am a Marymount Mariner!

I am a Mariner!

Marymount Mariners Jessica Aguilar and Raquel Zsupnik

My name is Jessica Aguilar and I am a Mariner. I am a freshman at Marymount and am currently studying to receive my bachelor's degree in Public Relations. I am a spring 2012 candidate for Phi Theta Kappa, an Honors society at Marymount College. I fully intend on studying for Marymount's London Study Abroad program for Fall 2012; I hope to immerse myself in a different culture and accomplish my desire of becoming a world traveler. One of my favorite spots would definitely have to be the Cafe Bistro balcony. There, I am free to unwind, grab a bite, and behold the breathtaking view of the ocean. With the plethora of opportunities and support Marymount College has to offer, I have not a doubt in my mind that with hard work and positivity, I will succeed. To me, a Mariner is an individual who strives to nourish their mind with the cornucopia of resources our college has to offer, all while positively contributing to the betterment of our close-knit community. This is why I am proud to be a Mariner.

My name is Raquel Zsupnik and I am a Mariner. I am currently studying at Marymount to receive my A.A. and I plan on working towards my bachelors degree with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Communication Studies. I am currently an active member of the Residents Hall Association at PV North, where I serve as  Community Development Chair. I am also an active member of the Associate Students of Marymount College, where I help represent the voice of my freshman class and strengthen the bond between other students, faculty, and the community while improving our school. This summer I hope to involve myself in an internship program in the Los Angeles area to help me expand my  horizons in the broadcasting and entertainment industry. My favorite thing about Marymount has to be the great resources offered, including small class sizes and extraordinary faculty members. It is nice to attend a school where everyone is working to achieve separate goals, and together are living a college experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Being a mariner means taking advantage of every resource offered, and achieving goals that you may have not thought were possible before. This is why I am proud to be a Mariner.

Through elementary school and high school, Jessica and Raquel have known each other through girl scouts and have chosen to attend Marymount College together, and because of their strong and continuous friendship, have chosen to be house mates as well. They love their experience so far at Marymount college so far and are proud to be Mariners.

Marymount Mariner Vanessa Yanez

My name is Vanessa Yañez and I am a Mariner. I am currently a senior at Marymount College in the Liberal Arts Bachelor’s Program with an emphasis in Psychology and American Studies. I am the President of Gay Straight Alliance, on the executive board of the National Society of Leaderhip and Success, and a student worker for the Advising Center and Student Life. I am also the Fall Program Assistant for New Student Orientation. As a junior transfer student, I was graciously overwhelmed with the amount of care and attention the staff and faculty offer to all students. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, I have felt part of the Marymount community. The small classes and the availability of professors are two main reasons why I enjoy being a Mariner. I also appreciate the campus wide opportunities that are offered throughout the year. I had the privilege to attend the United Nations Conference and represent Marymount College. Outside of campus, I take part in the community by playing in a co-ed Softball league, and have full intentions of expanding our campus recreation leagues through Student Life. My favorite spot on campus would be the Rose Garden. It is a blessing to take time out of your day to relax and watch the beautiful view. I believe that a Mariner is someone who embraces all opportunities, pursues their dreams and goals to better their future, and is able to make everyone a part of their Marymount family. This is why I am proud to be a Mariner.

Marymount Mariner Brittni Stansberry

My name is Brittni Stansberry and I am a Mariner. I am currently studying Pre-Nursing at Marymount, as I hope to become a labor and delivery nurse one day. I am a team member on the girl's soccer team. For the 2011-2012 school year I will be a Community Assistant at the PV North Residence Hall. I love that Marymount provides a family environment and the fact that the campus is small, which made the transition from high school to college much more comfortable. One of the benefits of going to Marymount is that the beach is so close. When I’m not at the beach, there is a good chance I am at the Del Amo Mall, which has some of my favorite stores. My favorite spot at Marymount is the Pavilion at PV North. Many community events are held there such as dances and barbeques. Being a Mariner means being part of the Marymount family. Students here are lucky to have to opportunity to be a part of a small campus where everyone is welcome. This is why I am proud to be a Mariner.

The Advisement Center, Learning Center, and Library all have amazing staff members who want to help you succeed. On the weekends my favorite thing to do is gather with all of my friends and have a movie night at PV North.  My favorite spot to hang out at has to be the Pavilion. The Pavilion offers a nice, relaxing environment to do homework and hang out with friends. Being a Mariner means having a college faculty and staff who know us personally and wants us to succeed. I just love the fact that Marymount is a family-based community where you know everyone at the school. Here you feel like you are a part of a family and not just another number in the crowd. On the weekend my friends and I explore our surroundings. I really like that the RD’s and CA’s who try their best to make our experience here a fun and adventurous one. I love the social life that we have here at the residence and it’s so easy to be friends with everyone! A Mariner means someone who, to the best of their abilities, pursue career goals and embrace the social community here at Marymount; making their experience one that will be a benchmark in their lives. This is why I am proud to be a Mariner.
