MARYMOUNT COLLEGE is a private, coeducational college devoted to a liberal arts education and the granting of the Associate degree.  The student body consists of approximately 750 weekday students and about 200 adult learners in the specialized Weekend College.  The College is located in Rancho Palos Verdes, on a picturesque site overlooking the Pacific, approximately 30 miles southwest of Los Angeles.  We are currently inviting applications for

ASSISTANT DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students with academic or personal issues.

  • Determine students' academic standing each semester immediately after finals, including dismissals and probation notifications.  Work in coordination with Registrar to prepare appropriate letters and reports.  Coordinate appeal process.

  • Prepare and publish Dean's list each semester, for day and Weekend College.

  • Assist students who are experiencing academic difficulties.  Coordinate student retention program.

  • Coordinate College catalog revisions each Spring, under direction of Dean.

  • Coordinate mid-term progress report program.

  • In conjunction with Registrar, develop and publish two-year projected academic calendar.

  • Assist Dean is assigned tasks, including preparation of budget reports and CDRC minutes. Attend required academic meetings - CDRC, Dept. Chairs, Academic Support Services.

  • In conjunction with Student Life, organize Student Awards Ceremony.

  • Assist with graduation and convocation ceremonies.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree, preferably in counseling, developmental education, student personnel or related field.  Prior experience in higher education as counselor, academic advisor, or administrator.  Teaching experience helpful.  Must have knowledge of Buckley Amendment, ADA and other legal issues.  Knowledge of class schedules, degree requirements, scheduling and articulation agreements.  Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills.  Ability to handle highly sensitive issues in a discrete and confidential manner.
