Revised Campus Improvement Plan
|
Dear Friends: All of us at Marymount College are extremely pleased that the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the College’s improvement program is now available. We look forward to the City’s review and approval process moving forward. Our preliminary review of the DEIR shows that the College can fully mitigate project traffic, operational noise, geology and soils issues plus a number of other potential project impacts. We believe that the DEIR shows that our plans are both beneficial and compatible with our neighbors and RPV as a whole. The DEIR is not Marymount College’s document, but a review done by an independent company hired and overseen by the City. We are still reviewing the full document and will provide detailed comments during the City’s upcoming hearings. As you know, the plan reflected in the current DEIR is different from our previous plan. I am very proud of our new Campus Improvement Plan and here’s why:
Finally, I am especially proud of our new commitment to affordable housing. We have included affordable housing units in the residence halls for some of our staff. This will help consolidate some of the State and City mandated affordable housing units on our Campus rather than having them dispersed throughout the City. This will also put more adults in our two residence halls to help foster a quiet learning environment. Over the last four decades that Marymount College has called RPV home, thousands of RPV and Peninsula residents and their children have benefited from a Marymount College education. We believe that after a complete review of our project as analyzed in the DEIR, residents of RPV will agree that our improvement plan will ensure that our City has a premier liberal arts College for years to come. I am glad that residents share my enthusiasm for our plans and our future. You may remember the citywide survey we conducted that showed RPV residents supported our plans 3 to 1. The survey also showed that an impressive 76% of residents favored our plans in precincts closest to the College. We are truly gratified by this level of support and look forward to having these voices heard in the City approval process. Sincerely,
Dr. Michael S. Brophy
