William H. Hannon Library
Marymount College expects to begin construction on the William H. Hannon Library in the near future. A 26,000-square-foot addition to Cecelia Hall, state-of-the-art facility, will assist students, faculty and staff in navigating the information superhighway and showcase many of the latest “green” building techniques.
Marymount College President Dr. Michael Brophy said. “Critical to the success of this mission is providing the necessary facilities to support multiple modes of technology-enhanced instruction. We are thrilled to be able to move forward with plans to enlarge and upgrade our campus library.”
The William H. Hannon Library will be the first and most prominent step in proposed changes to the layout of the campus. In keeping with the pristine quality of its surroundings, many environmentally sound building practices and architectural elements will be incorporated into the library’s design.
The library is slated to include a beautiful entrance plaza and an art gallery. The nexus of the interior space will be the Learning Center—a hands-on tutoring and mentoring center—which will occupy 4,000 square feet and include special equipment and adaptations for those with physical disabilities. A lecture hall and a computer classroom also occupy the interior, along with a traditional library and individual and group study spaces. A lounge will offer students a place to relax, as will the Catalina Plaza fountain and landscaped outdoor areas.
“The William H. Hannon Library will make many positive contributions to the campus, not the least of which is serving as the intellectual core of academic life at Marymount College,” Dr. Brophy said. “As a place of learning, the building itself will connect the campus to the larger world beyond its walls through media, technology and interaction. Yet, within its walls, scholars will be shaped and future leaders will be nurtured; gaining knowledge of the past and present, as well as critical tools for the future.”
