Prayer and Study Groups
Different programs are offered periodically to help students to delve deeper into their faith. A Bible Study series may be offered at the residential site to enable connections between scripture and life. “Midday Meditation” meetings in the Chapel may offer an experience of diverse prayer forms. COR’s weekly “Prayer Lunch” and PV North prayer meetings bring people together for spiritual sharing. Look for these and other Campus Ministry programs as they advertised on campus.
A retreat is a time set aside in which one withdraws from ordinary activities to commune with God in prayer, reflection and communal sharing. Campus Ministry offers a variety of retreat programs on campus and off campus to help students to explore and deepen their faith.
“Mountain Trek” is a Fall retreat held at Pine Summit Christian Center in Big Bear, California. Students develop bonds in a spirit of faith. Presentations are given by student leaders, supported by reflection, prayer, and fun group activities. Find fellowship in a rustic setting.
The “Busy Student Retreat” is an on-campus Lenten retreat. Participants learn ‘lectio divina” (a method of praying with scripture), and commit themselves to taking time during the week to meet privately with their retreat director, who may be a guest from off campus, or a faculty member.
“Beach Trek” is a second level group retreat that is currently in development. It will be offered for juniors and seniors.
Spiritual Direction
This is one-on-one spiritual sharing time between a student and a member of the Campus Ministry staff. Sometimes, a person may wish to share experiences and questions regarding his or her relationship to God, self and others. We are available to share perspectives on the spiritual journey and to help you discern the movement of the Spirit in your own life. Feel free to stop by our offices any time.
Educational Opportunities
Every year, Campus Ministry sponsors speakers or presentations exploring pertinent themes. Recent events include: Dr. Jaime Lara from Yale speaking on religious art and inculturation in Mexico; Rabbi Chuck Briskin helping us to delve into the meaning of Jewish holy days; and a webinar with author Mike Hays on “Young Adult Spirituality.” Mini-classes may be offered on various topics, such as "Forms of Prayer," or "Theology of the Body."
Adult Confirmation Class/ RCIA: Every year, Campus Ministry offers a process for those who wish to receive the sacraments of the Catholic Church (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation). Participants commit to meeting regularly throughout the school year for study, shared reflection and prayer. The process concludes with the reception of the sacraments during the Easter season. Educational events specifically for staff and faculty are offered through the Mission and Catholic Identity Council. The Annual “Founder’s Week” Lecture brings a noted speaker to campus in honor of the RSHM founding of the school. The “New Faculty Conversations” offer discussions on topics related to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
