New students may or may not need to take a placement exam before registering for courses, and your arrival time during Orientation will vary depending on if you are testing.
All students are evaluated individually to determine course placement. Items evaluated include the information you provide in the admission process, such as high school and college transcripts, and any standardized test scores (SAT, ACT and/or AP).
You may wish to take the placement exam if:
- You are a new student at Marymount this fall, and
- You have not taken English or math courses in college and received a grade of “C” or higher, and
- Evaluation of your standardized test scores determines placement into non-college-level coursework. All standardized test scores provided to Marymount during the Admission process are evaluated. If you have not done so already, please submit your SAT, ACT and/or AP score reports to the Admission Office as soon as possible.
If you have not taken any standardized tests, you will need to take the placement exams to determine which English and math courses you are required to take.
You will be notified of your course placement by the Admission and Advising offices.
Transfer students are evaluated individually for placement, and may need to take placement exams if:
- Evaluation of your official transcript determines placement testing is required, and
- You have not taken the SAT or ACT within the past two years or you did not submit your scores to the Admission Office, and
- Official transcripts are not provided. If transcripts are received after you take the placement exam and before the course add/drop date, you may move into a higher course sequence. Until transcripts are received, all prerequisites apply.
Your admission counselor will be able to provide more details regarding your placement testing status.
