Advisement + Transfer : Services

Academic Advisement

Academic advising is a process that assists the student in identifying needs and goals, thereby helping the student to maximize his or her educational experience. The goals and functions of academic advising include:

  1. Providing students with information on the policies, procedures and programs of Marymount.
  2. Helping students in choosing educational and career objectives well suited to their interests and abilities.
  3. Assisting students in exploring possible short- and long-range consequences of their choices.
  4. Making students aware of the wide range of services and educational opportunities that may pertain to their educational objectives at Marymount College.

Each student is assigned an academic advisor upon admission to Marymount based on his/her stated interests/goals. Students are offered the opportunity to change advisors based on their changing interests, goals and needs. Change of Advisor forms are available in the Advisement and Transfer Center.

Advisement and Transfer Center

The College’s Advisement and Transfer Center functions to help students earn an associate’s degree and to transfer subsequently to a four-year college or university, where they will complete the final two years of baccalaureate study. With the Center’s guidance and the help of the academic advisor to whom they are assigned, students create an education plan that allows them to fulfill Marymount College degree and general education requirements, enabling them to prepare for a major and meet eligibility for admission to the transfer institution of their choice.

Transfer Access Program (T.A.P)

From entrance to exit, Marymount is focused on preparing students for successful transfer. To that end, the College created the Transfer Access Program (TAP). TAP workshops are given throughout the academic year to provide information about transfer policies and procedures. In addition, the Center holds monthly sessions on specific and time-sensitive topics, including choosing a college/major,  applying to public institutions and applying to private/independent institutions. College representatives are also invited to campus during both the fall and spring semesters to assist students in the college selection process.
