The Premier Private 2-Year College

Advisement + Transfer : Requirements

Students may follow a program of study at Marymount College that allow them to begin their junior year at most four-year colleges and universities.  The requirements of colleges and universities vary greatly, so we recommend that all of our students:

  1. Consult with their academic advisor (required each term prior to registration) and the Advisement and Transfer Center while selecting courses.  It is important that courses are chosen in accordance with the degree requirements of Marymount College and those of the colleges and universities to which a student intends to transfer.
  2. Consult the catalogs and Web sites of the colleges and universities to which they intend to transfer.

Catalogs are available for many California colleges and universities and some out-of-state institutions in the Advisement and Transfer Center.

In addition to general recommendations, the College also gives more specific advice. While creating their educational program at Marymount, students should consider:

  1. General education and major requirements needed to obtain the Marymount associate’s degree.
  2. Removal of any subject deficiencies incurred during high school to strengthen their academic profile and become attractive transfer applicants.
  3. General education/breadth requirements — courses required of everyone to obtain a bachelor’s degree (regardless of major).
  4. Lower division courses for the major — providing background and preparation in order to begin upper-division major coursework upon transfer.
  5. Electives — courses of choice. In addition to the pre-major and general education requirements, enough elective courses must be taken in order to bring the total of all coursework to 60 semester units for transfer into the California State or University of California system.  A minimum of 60 units is also required to obtain the associate’s degree.
